      Freedom

            Growing up now-a-days we have a choice with our lives, some of us choose to go to school and get a education, while others choose the lazy life of dropping out of school and working a job that only pays minimum-wage. We all have to thank our parents, there our motivators in our life’s, they push to get an education so we can get far in life and not have to worry about income. Parents want us to live a better life, than they did. What some of us don’t realize is that we take our life’s for granted. There’s kids around the world who re either missing a body part, or they already have a life chosen for them before there born.  We should be thankful that we wake up every morning knowing we have every body part there and also that we have the freedom to choose what life we want to live.

            For those who have there life chosen, some cant break out of the cycle. It’s almost like a religion for them, it reminds me of 2 boys named Tosho and Kyisho from the book, “All I asking for is my body.” These two boys live in a plantation in Hawaii, where they have to work to pay off there parents debt of $6,000. For them to pay that debt off, would mean they would have to give up school and work for the rest of there lives. Well you would ask how is that fair? To them there live is already chosen for them, they have to work since there parents don’t work as much anymore and there was not enough money coming in for the boys to get and education. To this family dropping out of school was like a religion “Tosh was to quit High School and work in the cane fields to help support the family. It was what every number one son was expected to do. Father had done it for twelve years, turning over his entire pay to grandfather every month.” (27)

            Kyisho is the youngest son. He’s very smart in school like his bother, but later he finds himself dropping out of school after graduation and becoming a irrigation man just like his parents wished. Before he graduated he had a teacher named Snooky, everyone found Snooki a little weird, because he wouldn’t teach the kids what they were suppose to know, instead he would give them advice. “”Freedom means not being a part of a pecking order. Freedom means being your own boss.” Kyisho didn’t know what Mr. Snooki was trying to say, but as he got older he finally knew what those words meant. Kyisho even admitted to being like his mother, believing in superstition when it never really existed. Kyisho didn’t want to disappoint his parents by turning out like Tosho. He wanted to help his parents out, meaning he’d be there by there side working until he was dead.

            On the other hand Tosh was very different from his bother Kyisho. His parents found him to be very rude and disobedient. Don’t get him wrong he was a very smart student and had a lot of knowledge but Tosh didn’t believe in paying the debts that his parents got into. He didn’t believe it was his fault his parents got in a big debt. He would always tell his parents “ Boy you Japanese are really blind. It’s there in front of your eyes and you say, it’s a lie! You just cant see! You don’t see what’s out there, you only see what’s inside your head. Like grandfather. he takes your money, you say you gave it to him…. Black is white and white is black. Inside your head he’s like a god. But by his actions, he’s a thief.”(44) Tosh wasn’t fond of the idea as being the number one son. He got that name taken away when he saw the real truth, that he didn’t have to work for them, that he had a choice too, just like his parents did, except he didn’t want to be like them, he wanted to go to school and become something of himself but he couldn’t. His life was already chosen for him, but he wasn’t going to let the cycle keep happening.

            I believe it’s not the kids responsibility to pay there parents debts. If you got yourself in a debt, then you can get yourself out of it. In the book they kept having kids knowing that there was barely enough income just to feed them. Tosh wasn’t blind and he wasn’t dumb either. He knew if he really put his mind to it, he could go far in life but with his parents tradition it made it a bit harder. I was  on Tosh’s side the whole time. I didn’t believe that it was fair for them to have that big responsibility of paying off someone’s else’s debt.

            Sometimes I sit and think what my life would have been if I didn’t have any freedom. It’s sad in this case to see someone so young have to suffer from other people’s mistake, its not fair but like they said it was a tradition to them. Sometimes parents guide us the right way, while other guide them a different way. Reading this book taught me to appreciate life and appreciate having freedom to choose what kind of life I want to live.  Like Tosh said” All I asking for is my body. I not even asking them to send me to high school. Hell I can work my way.” (55)

 “Freedom means not being part of a pecking order. Freedom means being you own boss,” Snooky said. (34)

These quote really touched me. Snooky was Kiyoshi teacher. A lot of his students didn’t like him because of the way he would teach his class. He wasn’t teaching them what they were supposed to learn, but telling them the truth, the sad truth that no one in the village wanted to admit. These teacher wanted them to break the cycle, wanted them to actually get an education, instead of being the parents slave.

I can understand why he would tell this to the kids. He wanted them to see the real world, that they didn’t have to be slaves, if they broke the cycle, it meant that they would live a way better life then the life they are living now.

 To me this is really sad. My parents never made me to pay there debts, they would always say that they wanted me to get far In live, they would always push us to succeed and get an education. Here in the story its different, seemed like they would only have kids just so they could work young and work themselves to death. I don’t understand why someone would do that, but like they say, its religion to them, and they called it Filial piety.

In the book “All I asking for is my body,” Kiyoshi mother believed in superstition. She felt that every new year she had to start clean by “all debts paid, all the food cutting and cooking done by midnight on New Year’s Eve.. you bathed in the morning on New Year’s Day.” (21)  Everything that she did, she was always cautious about it.

My Mother is also old school. She believe in bad luck, like if we step on a crack she believes it’ll crack her back. I’m not sure why people believe so much in superstition, some of it just sounds so phony and so unreal, but my mother says when they were younger a lot of people believed in bad luck.

Another thing I noticed about Kiyoshi’s family, is that they don’t make enough money to  buy themselves goodies, it seems that the only money they make is enough for only food. In the book it says that they loose all there teeth, that says a lot about them. People who aren’t rich, seem to only worry about food, nothing else. Its sad to see that they cant afford to buy toothpaste for there teeth.

Chapter 57 "Supporting a Thesis"

It is true, most assignments require that when you write an essay you either have a thesis or a main idea, and have well organized paragraphs to support you thesis or main idea. To form a thesis there's a couple of steps that can help you achieve a well organized essay.

First they require that you make a thesis sentence. A thesis can either appear at the beginning or end of the introduction. Its basically a one sentence statements of your main idea.

Then you need to organize all your evidence. The standard model is, Method, Result, Discussion.

Then they may ask you to use sources to inform and help explain your thesis. The author says that the sources can play a big role in developing your essay.

I plan to use this when i have to write essay's for this class. I know how important the thesis statement is. Thad's why when we have essay's to write I'm very careful about the things i want to say. I find this really helpful and i also plan to use this for English 1a.

All I'm asking for is my part, Part I

  Who is Makot?  Makot is this young boy who lives with his Japanese family. He is the an older boy who likes to hang out with younger boys. The older boys don't like hanging out with Makot. So Makot buys the younger boys anything they want so he can be there leader. If the younger boys don't do what Makot says, he puts this fuzzy face and makes them feel bad until Makot gets his way. Do you feel sorry for him? In a way i do because it must be hard for a boy his age having to deal with his parents being in the prostitution world. Everyone gives him a hard time and it makes me sad that he has to deal with it all by himself.
 What are your thoughts about him and the way he copes with his parents? I think the way he copes with it is by having control of younger kids, making them rebel against there parents and making them steal. I think when he does this it makes him feel great, like if he get some kind of enlightenment by this. I also believe that he wants all the younger kids not to listen or obey what there parents ask them to do. Since Makot has no one telling him what to do, he feels everyone should do the same.

Rough Draft

 The Value of Forgiveness

            To forgive someone who has hurt you not only physically but emotionally, can be hard. Some say it’s easier said then done, but you may also ask yourself, would you forgive someone who put you through torture? Could you find the strength to go up to that person without yelling at them?

            Hearing the word forgiveness reminds me of the young boy named Victor from the movie “Smoked Signals.” Victor was an Indian boy who lived on the reservation with his tribe. Victor’s father Arnold had a bad habit of drinking, he was an alcoholic, while under the influence, Arnold seemed to build anger remembering his past, out of anger, Arnold would hit his wife and Victor. Arnold soon started to realize that he wasn’t only hurting himself but he was hurting the ones that loved him the most.  He decide to one day get the nerve to get up and leave his family.

            Growing up without a father figure in Victor’s life wasn’t an essay obstacle. He had to learn how to be a man by himself. Victor became this young boy who had a lot of anger inside of him. When you see him, you could tell that he kept all his  feelings to himself, he acted as if he had no one to talk to. Thomas was his tribal childhood friend. Thomas was this young boy who had a creative imagination, he loved to tell stories, especially to Victor about his father Arnold. Thomas would tell Victor stories about Arnold to make him remember all the nice things Arnold once did. Victor just couldn’t believe his father was ever nice, the only memories he carried were the ones where Arnold would be hitting him.

            Victor felt that his father no longer cared for him, soon he got the call that they found his father dead in his trailer. Victor knew that he had to go pick up his father ashes but couldn’t finically go, except the fact that Tomas offered to pay only if he could go. Victor wasn’t to fond of the idea, but soon agreed that he could go. As they arrived, his dad’s neighbor Suzy, let Victor go in the trailer where they had found his father. Victor found Arnold's wallet with a family picture of them. As he turned the picture he saw the words Family. Victor couldn’t seem to understand how someone who abandoned him at a young age, could still carry a picture of his family. He soon started to realize that his father never forgot about him or his family. Suzy made it clear to Victor that all his father talked about was going home.

            Although Victor didn’t believe in forgiving, he soon learned that forgiving was the first step towards finding happiness in his heart. We all sometime in our life have to forgive someone who has hurt us, it isn’t easy and I don’t believe it was meant to be easy either. My mother once told me in order to find happiness within yourself, you have to first learn how to forgive others who have done you wrong, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to forget the torture you went through, but you need to learn to forgive in order to live in peace not only with yourself but within your heart.

"This is what it means to say Phoenix, Arizona"

In the story “This is what it means to say Phoenix, Arizona,” I fount a couple things that seemed unusual, for instance Victor personality in the story wasn’t the same as the movie. In the movie he acted like the bad guy, always had a tough attitude and seemed mad all the time. In the book he seemed laid back, actually acting like a regular teenager. As for Thomas he is still the same dorky kid in both the movie and story. Victor did seem the same towards Thomas, except he wasn’t as me as he was in the movie.

I believe that if Victor was anything like the story in the book he would be more popular and everyone would want to hang out with him. I know that at a young age its hard to act normal when you’ve got so many things running through your head like for example the death of a father or mother. I enjoyed the book for than the movie. It seemed the characters were more relaxed.

Writing Topic: Chapter 27

In Chapter 27 "Choose appropriate verb forms, tenses, and moods in standard English," I found it to be a very interesting topic i like to share with all my classmates.

All verbs in English have five different forms, expect for the verb be. The five forms are Base form, Past Tense, Past Participle, Present Participle, and -S Form. An interesting face about this forms are that the past-tense and Past-principle form regular verbs ending with -ed. On the other hand the irregular verbs are formed by the past-tense and past-principle.

Choose standard English forms of irregular verbs.
With all regular verbs end with -ed or -d. They are formed by past-tense and past- principle. Some base form words are, go, fight and fly. Other like past-tense words can be, went, fought and flew. While past-principle words are gone, fought and flown.

Distinguish among the forms of lie and lay.
Everyone in this world confuse lie and lay. Like for example the word lie is an intransitive verb, while lay is a direct object.

Some of this tips can really help you when your struggling, sometimes either your not sure if it sounds correct or if it even makes any sense. I plan to use this in class when i want to end words with -ed or -s. I know it  cant be sued at my work unless i use it verbally, by making sure my speech is correct ending with the right endings. I hope all of you enjoy this chapter, its helpful.

Smoked Signals

As I watched the movie “Smoke Signals” Victor is this young man who lives on the reservation with his mom. He’s mother kicked out Arnold, Victor’s dad because she would see how much pain Arnold was causing to his family with his drinking problem. I can really relate to Victor in this case because my father also had a drinking problem, and he almost lost all of us. I can understand why Victor had so much anger built up inside of him. He would witness his father beating his mother and also his father would beat up Victor also for no apparent reason.

 
What I really couldn’t fully understand was why Victor was so mean to Thomas. I can understand that the questions Thomas asked Victor about his dad would get him upset but it still didn’t make sense. Thomas seemed like this compassionate, friendly guy who tried to be there for him even though his questions were a little annoying to Victor. It seemed that at the end of there journey they discovered that no matter where life might take them Victor would always have Thomas there, to make him laugh or just to annoy him. Sometimes we don’t realize what we until that person is long gone. That’s what Victor ended up realizing at the end when he lost his father.

Chapter 48 "Evaluating arguments"

When we argue we sometimes tend to think we have won, but when you evaluate a arguement closey, we end up having a unfair arguement. Here are a couple of ways to evaluate different kinds arguments.

"Distingusih between reasonable and fallcious arumentative tactics."
Unreasonable arguments are also known as logical fallacies. Most use tactics that arent true and are sometimes misleading and arent honest as well.
We first genaeralize, writers even us generalize all the time. We make sure when we've came down to our conclusion,we have sufficent evidence to back it up.
Next we need to draw analogies, by drawing analogies we try to point out the similarites of the two topics.
We then need to weight the option and make assumptions. An assumption can be a claim that is true, without proof.
Then finally comes Deducing conclusions. we can now establish a principle and a conclusion.

I plan to use this information in my essay's when i'm writing, because when we write we think we have made a point but at the end our point can be misleading and make no sense. I hope i can use this at work when we have some kinds of arugments, maybe it'll helo, ill just have to wait and find out. I find this usefull information and i bet everyone else does to.

“Happy Endings,” “Obituary,” and “Oompah Loompah” Dialogue

My response to Mr. Harvey is that he sounds like a mean, tough teacher. I honestly think he doesn’t mean to sound rude at all. I think Mr. Harvey probably had a rough childhood because maybe he use to also talk pidgin. He probably learned the hard way of how to speak correct English. I believe that’s why he is tough on his students, because he probably suffered a lot and doesn’t want to see his students go through the same obstacles as he did.

My father is the same way as Mr. Harvey. He is tough on me and my sister, to get and education and a degree. My father was born in Mexico and came here illegally, but became a citizen after a couple of years being here. My father had no education, he basically knew nothing. He tells us he’s mean and pushes us to have a better life then he had. I understand where Mr. Harvey is coming from and I understand some of us had to learn things the rough way. I don’t think Mr. Harvey has a polite attitude towards his students, but I can his view of point. I don’t believe he means to sound rude on purpose, I think he try’s to have the mean attitude so the students take him seriously and not as a joke.

Chapter 47 "Constructing reasonable arguements"

In "Constructing reasonable arguments" the main goal is to explain to your audience the truth about a subject, to make them reconsider their opinions by giving them new information to make them question there old view of points. Theres a couple of steps that you may need to follow in order to construct a good argument.

1. You'll first need to examine your issue's social and intellectual contexts, this means that you should do some research about how to present an argument paper if it's for your first time.
2. View your audience as a panel of jurors, doing this will make it so you don't automatically think that there going to agree with you on your topic, it'll make you work harder to persuade them.
3. Come out strong, when your working on your argument, make sure your thesis sentence states your opinion, and it establishes credibility.
4. Show enough evidence to support your claim, doing this will have your audience convinced that what you are saying is true, by having back up evidence to show the truth.

Even though there's  a couple more steps missing, these are some simple steps to making an argument paper better, Even though i haven't written an argument paper in this class, i do plan to use it in my English 100, i heard in that class we will be writing most of the time, that's why I'm trying to take advantage of learning everything i can because i know the next class after this will be harder. I know i can use these at my work, because there is alot of arguments that do have some truth behind it. Hopefully i can use this both  at school and outside of school. The more i learn the better of the writer ill be.

Extra Credit "Writing about Fiction"

In the reading ‘Writing about Fiction’ gives you ideas and steps that help you become a better writer when it comes to writing fiction, here are some cool tips that I found really interesting from the reading

“Close Reading a Text”

Highlight; they ask that you highlight the main points, words that attract your intention, key phrases.

Marginal Notes; In the reading they say that making notes on the margin of the reading can help you better understand the story, it can even answer some questions you may have.

Free write Summaries & Response entries;

The author asks that you write after you read. You can ask questions and see if you can come up with an answer or solution. The best question to always ask yourself first is “What is the main point the author is trying to get across to you?”

Avoiding Pitfalls:

Sometimes when we write about fiction there are some assumptions that may get in the way and instead of making us a better writer, it makes our writing sound confusing. Here are some of tips to avoid pitfalls.

Plot Summary Syndrome:

When they ask you to write about the plot summary they simply want you to be able to describe in detail what happened, they don’t want you to go and try to find what the goal of the writer was.

Right Answer Roulette;

The author says that we should not be forced to try to guess the right answer when the only one with the correct answer is the teacher. 

"Developing a Thesis"

1.      After your done reading the author asks that you go back to your notes and look for either patterns of questions or some ideas that may have came up during the reading.

2.      Once you’re done with asking yourself questions, then they ask that you write your own question or idea and then you simply answer it.

3.      After you’ve completed these first 2 steps, now your ready to write your own thesis sentence. To create your own thesis statement, it says that you just turn your question and answer around and put it in a sentence where it all makes sense.

4.      Now that you’ve come up with your thesis sentence, you now need to have sentences that support you thesis sentence.

“Pre-writing Activities”

1.      Freewrtie, they ask that you write for 5 to 10 minutes without stopping, or going back to make any corrections.

2.      Review; go back to your notes to look for evidence that will help you when you’re ready to discuss your topic.

3.      Research, once you have enough evidence to support your thesis statement, you may want to to use outside sources, so you get a better understanding of your topic.

4.      Evaluate, go back to your evidence, see what information may be useful for you topic and leave out information that may not make sense to your topic.

“Drafting Your Essay”

1. Quote; a quotes is a phrase or a paragraph from a story that has some meaning to it.
2. Paraphrasing; you use your own words to describe what the author said, like me for example.
3. Summarizing; this is taking a long paragraph or passage and putting in into 2 or 3 sentences.

I plan to use this helpful information when I write another essay. I don’t know how I could apply it at work, but I know that I can apply this to writing and even when im reading a book for fun. It’s a lot of steps but I know that if I take this steps into consideration it will only make me into a better writer.

Essay Workshop 2

Chang-Rae and I

In the reading ‘Coming Home Again,’ Chang-Rae is this young, sweet, intellgient boy, who leaves his home about the age of 15 to attend a fancy boarding school, little did Chang-Rae know his mother was dying slowly without his acknowledgement. Chang-Rae’s memories of his mother were always in the kitchen, he would always have to sneak in to watch her cook because she felt ‘that her work would only weaken him.’ (12) Now that his mother has passed away, he finds himself in the kitchen, cooking the same meals that his mother once cooked for their family. In this reading, the story is more than just about his mother cooking food for their family, its about how we all share a special bond with a closed loved one, without realizing it until their gone.

When I read about Chang-Rae’s mother I couldnt help but also think about my mother and the similarties they both share. My mother always makes sure there is food ready, so as soon as we get home, dinner is already prepared and ready to be served. In my family it was okay for the girls to watch their mothers cook, because in our reilgion, the girl is the one who has to cook for the husband and clean up after him. To tell you the truth, I don’t believe in that, I believe everyone has to give a hand when it comes down to husband and wife duties. Chang-Rae on the other hand wasn’t allowed to watch his mother cook, but he did learn some of her dishes without having to know the recipe. He would watch her every move until he remerozied every recipe, “My moher never left me any recipes, but this is how I learned to make her food, each dish coming not from a list or a card but from the aromatic speard of a board” (12) 

             

As I read on through the story, I started to realize that Chang-rae and I share a couple of similiarties. Chang-rae would cook meals to remind him and his family about their mother. Me on the other hand, I cook my mother’s meals to remember her and her smile’s as she cooked dinner for me and my family. My mother is still alive unlike Chang-rae’s mother. I decided to move out of my home unlike Chang-rea who decied to go to boarding school. For me cooking my mothers meals only brings me memories of how our family once use to be. Even though my meals taste nothing likes her, I just love to cook just to remember her. I don’t use cook books, because I learned cooking just by watching her and the amount she would grab with her hand. Cooking to me is more than just being able to eat food, but it makes me feel like like I’m back home again, although my mother even though she is a 10 minute drive from my house.

            
 Even though Chang-rae lost his mother, he knew he carried a special bond with her, that not even his father nor sister had. Its hard to accept the loss of a parent, espcially a loved one. I don’t know how it feels to loose a mother but I do know how it feels to loose a close friend. We as children and adults have taken our parents for granted. ‘You don’t know what you have, until its gone.’ Even though Chang-rae was hurt by his mother’s death, he knew cooking her meals would only bring him closer to her. We all know and accepted that we take people for granted but what if that person doesn’t live to see the day of tomorrow, what will we be regretting about that person.? Don’t let the ones you love the most slip right through your fingers, instead hold on to them tight, because tomorrow isnt promised.

Chapter 4 'Builing effective paragraphs.'

In chapter 4 Diane hacker talked about ways we can build effective pargraphs, that only takes a couple of steps. First Diane explains how to focus on a main point. The main point should be clear and understandable to all the readers and all paragraphs that follow have to somehow relate to the main point. Like a thesis, a topic sentence usually comes first in a paragraph. Some writiers either chose to put there topic sentence either in the begining or towards the end. Diane goes to explain that some professional writiers 'dont alway use clear topic senteneces.' She says we need to be careful that we have good structure sentences becasue if we have sentences that don't suport the topic sentnece it may ruin the paragraphs of the essay. Diane says its okay to wirte a short paragraph, but to be careful that the short paragraph doesnt leave out any missing information. Professional sometimes use different writing skills to make there essay's work. For example like cause and effect, narration and etc.. As she goes on the chapter mainly focuses on how to build a good essay so everything at the end comes out good.
I plan to use these steps that Diane hacker explains to make a better essay and make sure each paragraphs makes sense and it relate back to my main point. They sound a little confusing but i will try my best on my next essay assigned.

'Shooting Dad'

As I read ‘Shooting Dad’ Sarah was this young girl who was into art, while her father was into guns. Sarah and her father didn’t agree on much without it ending in a argument. Sarah couldn’t accept her father as a gun smith, which drew her to become a little distant. Amy, Sarah’s twin sister was more outgoing, Amy and her father had more in common then Sarah shared with her father. As Sarah grew up she realized she wanted to accept her dad for the way he was, and she even went with him to shoot his first homemade cannon.

 
The meaning to this essay is that even though Sarah didn’t like her father as a gun smith, she learned to accept it and appreciate every opportunity she could have with her father. As she grew up she matured and realized that nothing last forever. I think that no matter what differences anyone has with there parents, we all come down to a conclusion where we learn to accept them for the way there are. Why would you want to change someone into something they’ll never be. The lesson here is that we all have our disagreements, but with years we mature and see that what we have now, may not be there tomorrow.

Chapter 2 "Gloabl revisions"

In chapter 3 it mainly discussed different steps we can use to revise an essay throughly. First there's global revision. Global revision is basically reading our essay in a audience's perspective. We should ask ourselves question's as we play the role of our audience, for example "What is the main point of the essay?" "What story is it trying to tell?" Next step is to revise and edit your esssay, by doing so some people prefer to print out a copy and mark down any errors they see. Others might prefer reading it off the computer, either way is really helpful in revising your sentences. The last step in revising your essay is to proofread your essay. Proofreading is when you read slow and serach for mispelling's and any errors that may be visible. As you finish these steps, your essay is ready.
I plan to use these tips when our next essay's are due. There really helpful tips that not many people are aware of. I'm not sure where else i can apply these tips to outside of school. I'll try using at work and see how far these helpfull tips will work. Ill pass it on to people i know, because i know alot of us aren't aware of this type of information.

“Coming Home Again” Dialogue

What’s the importance of food in this essay?             

The food in this essay not only symbolized there cultural but the time Chang-rae got to spend with his mother. Chang-rae was constantly getting kicked out of the kitchen because his mother believed he didn’t belong there. Instead he belonged outside playing with friends or doing his homework. To Chang-rae his relationship with his mother just only grew when he would sneak in to watch his mother cook there special Korean plates. He felt that being in the kitchen with her only made them stronger because as they cooked, they shared comments with each other. He even learned how to cook his mothers meal without a recipe book, but by the way she would do it.

 
In every family we all share special moments with our loved ones, especially our parents. Chang-rae knew that what he and his mom had was a different relationship then she shared with her other kids. When his mother passed, Chang-rae even tried to cook just like his mom for his family,  but to Chang-rae the meals weren’t exactly the same like his mothers, he tried everything he could to bring a smile to everyone’s face. He knew the only way he keep close to her was to cook her meals and remember those good times he once had shared with her.

Chapter 2 "The Writing Process"

In chapter 2 there's a couple of steps that you  may follow to get a great paper started. In the chapter the author says that the introduction usually talks about the main point. This is where the thesis sentence comes in. After you had develop a thesis sentence you then need supporting sentences to back up your thesis. You will then nee to draft the body of your essay. Drafting the body of the esssy simpliy means that your making paragraphs supporting your thesis. Thats why they say the thesis sentence is the most important sentence of your essay. Then you will need to make a conclusion paragraph. Conclusion paragraph is where you want to come to an end with your essay. It can be short and it usually should leave your reader with something to think about.
I plan to use this when i have future essay's to write. It has every helpfull tips that i can use in this class in the future and there very self expanatory. I think everyone can use this because i know i'm not the only one who has a hard time coming up with ways to write an essay. Im really course to see the other chapters to see what else i can learn about essay formats.

Essay 1: First Draft

Love

Have you ever met a person who gave you the feeling of butterflies fluttering in your stomach right from the start? Do you remember waking up early in Junior High, just to look your best for him? Remembering those good old days, reminds me of how one handsome guy name Emmanuel changed my life forever. As I hold a picture of us, it brings back memories of when I first met him at finely park, and memories of all those crazy things I did just to get this boy’s attention. I never thought I woud be here writing about someone who completely turned my life around.
As I continue to hold the picture of Emmanuel and I, I can’t help but treasure the adventurous memories we’ve had. Our picture reminds me of Allie and Noah from the movie The Notebook. Allie and Noah were a young couple who fell madly in love with each other, but were torn apart by Allie’s parents because they didn’t approve of Noah’s poor family. But, just when they thought their chances of being together were over, they found each other again and realized that the love they had for one another was stronger than anything or anybody in this world. That story reminds me of similar obstacles that Emmanuel and I have overcome, in order for us to realize that our love is a magical blessing. Our love is unlike anything we have experienced in our lives before.
Sometimes I find myslef on the roof of my house, looking up at the stars, hoping I’ll see a shooting star to make a wish. I remember I used to wish that one day I would be able to find someone I could love and hold on to forever. Now I find myself wishing that there would be more mintues in the day, so I can spend more time with him. Emanuel just isnt my boyfriend but he is my bestfriend. Someone you can trust your soul with and know they wouldn’t do anything to ruin your trust. I can count on him anytime or anyday to be there for me, rain or shine. He motivates me to be sucessful in life, just when I’m about to give up, he’s right there to hold my head up and tell me everything is going to be okay.
Growing up to an abusive father wasn’t always the eaisest. As a child I never experienced love or even knew what love felt like, to me the word love was just another word in my vocubulary. I was always scared that I would never be able to love someone because of my past. It frightened me as years passed and I started growing up, I started to discover that I could never love anybody. I was always in and out of relationships and never felt that special connection to anybody. As I was ready to give up, this one man came into my life and made me forget about all my tragic memories and even showed me what love meant.
As I take one more look at our picture before putting it away, I know we’ve both made mistakes, but I realize that it is perfectly normal. We both aren’t perfect and I don’t mind that because my imperfections complement his and vice versa. We’ve have our ups and downs, but working through our differences will only makes us stronger. There have been times when we have broken up just to end up making up because we both know we shouldn’t let the small stuff come between us. I believe love is the best gift I have ever received and I wouldn’t trade it in for anything in this world. They say love is a complicated concept to explain, but if you’re in love, you don’t need to understand it because you can feel it. I never imagined myself to be as happy as I am now, especially by just looking at the picture of Emmanuel and I.

Cahpter 1 "The Writing Process"

In the reading “The Writing Process,” explained different ways you can generate ideas for an essay, but they ask that before you write down all your ideas to follow a coupe of helpful tips before you start. First you must assets the writing situation, what they mean by this to really thin about the subject your going to take, it is either assigned to you or you are able to choose one as you please. Next you need to explore your subject. You may do this by annotating notes or taking class notes. As you finish this step you then formulate a thesis. A thesis is a sentence that is usually the main point or the key word. As soon as you have thought of a thesis sentence then your ready for the next step. sketch a plan on how you want to write your essay, make sure to take your tine and there’s no need for rushing.

"The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me" Dialouge

As I read the story “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and me,” it surprised me how much one Indian can suffer. As I read the story it became clear on why people think a “smart Indian” can be dangerous. Sherman said, “As Indian children, we were expected to fail in the non-Indian world.” (13) People who were his own ethnicity were even scared of him, but you may wonder and ask yourself why? Back in the day Indian’s were believed not to be educated and Indians were used to do the dirty work of others, because they believed Indians wouldn’t question what they were doing, and they weren’t going to know what they were doing was bad.
Sherman Alexie was a man everyone feared. They were scared of him because he knew too much. He educated himself by reading books. The non-Indians were afraid because if one Indian could get smart, they feared that all would get intelligent and then be able to over power those non-Indian people. The main thing they thought of Indians was that they were savages. So for the non-Indians to see an Indian man be well educated not a savage scared them and they feared that the Indians would become to smart to do their dirty work for them. It just saddens me on how much one has to suffer in order to get heard.

Writing Topic: Rules for Writers chapter 46

In the 'Rules for Writers' chapter 46, talked about the major points of text. Text can refer to essays, books and etc. It gives you step by step on how to analyze a text and how to take notes. There's 2 steps that they have found helpfull for students to understand. First, you have to annotate the text. Annotating basically means that your observing the text and writing down any questions that you may get while reading the text. Second step that they have found helpful is underylining the main keys points of the text. Say you come across a major point, you underline it, that way when your done reading the whole text, you cokme back and find the main point is. Doing all of these helpful steps will make you become a better writer.

I find that this chapter taught me alot about how to take notes and analyze a story. You see i find english really hard and sometimes confusing, but i feel now i can really use this helpful steps for my current english class. I loved how it explained the difference between summarizing the text from analyzing a text. I hope this will come helpfull during the next couple assingments. I plan to use it when we have reading assignments and when we have to start writing essays. I hope that it will be easy as the book explains it.

"Free Writing Excerises" Dialogue

When I hear the word free write, I automatically know that a freewrite is when your teacher gives you 10 or 15 minutes to write about anything you want. When I mean anything, it really means anything. The real purpose of a freewrite is to put all your ideas into one paper without really worrying about grammar or spelling. Say that you cant think of anything to write, just write on the paper you can’t think of anything over and over until you can think of something to write. That’s why freewrite’s are fun, because you can express yourself without having to worry about spelling or any errors. Freewrite makes our writing stronger because it lets us put all our ideas down on a piece of paper and at the end we can combine and gather good information from it.

As I learn more and more about freewrite’s, its just surprise’s me how much a freewrite can do. I’m not going to lie but I thought freewrite’s were just to free write about anything, but as I learn more I see that freewrite’s can come I into handy when doing an essay, or just a way to put ideas together. I feel that in the future freewrite’s will come in handy and I can’t wait to use this technique.

Introductions Dialogue

Hi, My name is Myra Alvarez. I was born in Santa Rosa but raised in a small town named Healdsburg. I just barely moved to Santa Rosa about two years ago, and let me tell you what a big difference Santa Rosa is compared to Healdsburg. About a year ago, I became a Certified Phlebotomist, it’s the coolest job I could have ever chosen. Right now I’m back at school trying to become a Registered Nurse. I’m not married nor have any kids. I’m just tiring to do as much as I can before I start a family of my own.
English is not my best subject, just because it was always a little more confusing to me. I hope that I will learn new writing skills and new reading skills. I love to learn but I learn better seeing it done. This is also my first time taking an English class online. I’m very excited and I hope to learn a lot from this class and pass it on to my younger nieces and nephews.
I have taken English 100 last semester and my teacher was really hard on the assignments and quizzes, unfortunately I’m here again taking the class. I’m more nervous just because this is my second try and I don’t want to fail this time. I was disappointed but I’m starting out fresh and clean this year. I cant wait for to see how much I can learn from this class.
